Cost of a Renovation in NZ
Realistic renovation cost ranges for the Waikato — by room and by scope.

"How much will my renovation cost?" is impossible to answer precisely without seeing the job — but here's a realistic, plain-English guide to the ranges in the Waikato, what moves them, and how we price renovations at RB Thomas.
All figures are broad, indicative 2026 ranges. The only accurate number is a proper quote.
Rough ranges by room
- Bathroom renovation: commonly $20,000–$40,000+ depending on size, layout changes and finishes
- Kitchen renovation: commonly $25,000–$50,000+ depending on cabinetry, benchtops and appliances
- Whole-home renovation: often $100,000–$300,000+ depending on scope and how much structural work is involved
What drives renovation cost
- Whether you're moving plumbing, wiring or walls (structural changes cost more and may need consent)
- The condition of what's behind the walls — rot, old wiring and dodgy plumbing add up
- Your choice of finishes and fittings
- Access and how much of the home stays in use during the work
