Natural timber versus composite decking
Timber has a warmth and beauty that’s hard to beat. We’re big fans of decks built from hardwoods such as Kwila, which will last as long as your house when properly looked after. But we can work with composite decking too, if that’s what you want. Just keep in mind composite decking has a high upfront cost and can become unbearably hot underfoot on warm days. Let us talk you through the pros and cons of each application if you’re on the fence.

Functional design tips
Over time we’ve learnt what works…
- Hide away the BBQ to minimise clutter
- Add a privacy screen between you and your neighbours
- Open your indoor kitchen to the outdoors
- Install stair lights to make them safer after dark
- Connect decks to existing pathways, doors, or other outdoor spaces

Deck maintenance
Deck seen better days? Call us round to sand and seal your deck. We’ll have it looking like new again by using the best products for your deck, as well as countersinking or punching down screws or nails, and fully protecting and sealing adjacent areas.
Deck building FAQs
How long will it take to build my deck?
The duration required to construct a deck can vary widely, ranging from just a few days for simpler projects to approximately 3 to 4 weeks for larger and more complex designs. The timeline hinges on the specific design, size, chosen materials, and any additional features you want.
What’s the likely lifespan of decking?
Should you seal or stain your deck?
Deck sealers are perfect for maintaining the natural beauty of high-end materials like mahogany or teak. Whereas deck stains can conceal imperfections, making them a great choice for enhancing the appearance of less expensive wood or revitalising a worn-out deck.
